San Lorenzo Valley- mountain communities along Highway 9
The San Lorenzo Valley is a place in Santa Cruz County that is unique. The valley starts at Santa Cruz, but the lower area is mostly all land owned by the park or Roaring Camp Railroad. Highway 9 is a pretty drive in a sports car from Santa Cruz, but that is only one way to get there. The easiest way is going over from Scotts Valley and crossing over Mt Hermon road. That will take you to Graham Hill road and into Felton. Mt Hermon has an interesting past and is a Christian community, located at the top of Conference Drive. There is no denominational restriction in order to live there.
The valley really starts at Felton, a charming community that is located mostly in the broadest part of the valley. Felton has mainstream stores, yet retains its small community feeling. Up valley, you will find the community of Ben Lomond, which is probably the next largest and is a nice place to live as well. Heading up Highway 9 further is the little community of Brookdale, with its famous Brookdale Lodge as its mainstay. At the top of the valley is the town of Boulder Creek. This old lumbering town has a typical old Main Street setting and some interesting smaller shops and antique stores. The town has a rural feel and is gateway to the Boulder Creek Golf course and the Big Basin Redwoods State Park. Many who work in Silicon Valley call Boulder Creek home, traveling to get there on Bear Creek Road. It is a pretty drive, much different than the freeway. The San Lorenzo Valley is a great place to call home; to see homes, just choose a community.
