Airports around Santa Cruz and the surrounding areas.
The last local airport standing is Watsonville's airport and it too is under fire with the development surrounding it.Many local airports have fallen prey to financial or city developement plans. Locally the Watsonville Pilots Association is fighting to keep the last one standing. The city of Watsonville is expansion minded and wants to shut down on of the two runways at the Watsonville airport. They are concerned about safety and use, both of which are valid. Recently a judge sided with their position. More is to be discussed in the future.
Santa Cruz County used to have a bunch of airports, but those fell prey to cities plans for growth and the financial rewards that a large piece of land that the communities grew towards. Watsonville pilots and friends of the airport users are fighting the development minded city of Watsonville as they are trying to rezone land off of Buena Vista road for residential development. This airport host the popular Watsonville Fly-in, which is a popular show or old planes as well as acrobatic planes. Great to take the kids to see.

San Francisco Airport
This airport is located in Brisbane, about 20 minutes south of San Francisco. It is about 1-1/2hours from Santa Cruz
