Westlake West Santa Cruz CA Neighborhood
The upper West Santa Cruz are of Westlake is an interesting development that is singular in that is has a lake as part of its lure. The park in the middle, is home to dozens of ducks and geese. Westlake, which is really a pond in size, not a lake, is a place kids can fish. The pond is surrounded by lots of grass. This is a great place to throw the dog a ball or play Frisbee with your kid. There is also a kids' play area.
The park area has homes surrounding it, and on the surrounding streets. The main drive around Westlake is Bradley, with it meeting up with Majors Street. Moore Street is on the backside of this development. The homes here are mostly single story ranch style homes, though with many of the homes being remodeled, many second story's were added.
Most of these homes were 3 bedrooms and ranged up to about 2000 square feet. The lots were often 7000 or 8000 square feet, bigger than most of what was available in Santa Cruz. As it too, is on the next plateau above the ocean, it was a bit warmer and doesn't get as much of the wind that the lower west side sees. Westlake Elementary is with easy walking distance of this area and the university is a short couple minute drive. This area is accessed off of High Street and off of Laurent. The streets here and in the general area are Majors, Bradley, Moore, Allegro, and off the back side nearby is Iowa, Archer and Fridley. Most of the homes here start at about $800,000 for fixer uppers so start your search above that price point in most cases.
