Seniors and Health
Doctors have our lives in their hands. Literally and figuratively. We trust them implicitly, often not seeking a second opinion. Trust in the professionals you keep is important, whether it is a doctor, CPA or real estate broker. Your duty is to be honest with them and they to do what they feel is in your best interest.
Sometimes this trust goes awry when the hand written notes or prescription are incorrectly read or filled. The confidence start to erode if it goes any further than that. One of the biggest areas we see and feel this frustration is at the pharmacist.
The medical profession has been slow to adopt new technologies for the mundane job of bedside information. While there has been progress, poor handwriting unfortunately still is the cause of death for over 7,000 people per year.
Medical record keeping is improving, with the electronic health records(EHR's) being used by a high percentage of doctors in large California medical facilities.
Communication is key, but incorrect communication can be deadly. If in doubt about your medication, ask your doctor and write down what medication you are to be taking and the frequency. It could save your life. And of course, write neatly........
