Santa Cruz is on Highway One, one of worlds prettiest highways to drive.

An article recently in Forbes Traveler
tells what many of us that live here already know. California's
coast is very beautiful. Living in the Santa Cruz
area, located on highway 1, it is common place and beautiful, just the
same. The things that make the drive mundane are the same as any drive,
yet often times the beauty slows you down and makes you aware of what
is really of value in life. Seeing the ocean change as you drive, the
light of the sun and the clouds making light and dark patches, ever
shifting and I drive down the coast. This feeling too, is reflected.
"Highway
One, LA
to San Francisco,
Calif.
Mike Dushane, editor at CarAndDriver.com
says California’s
Pacific Coast Highway is
his favorite route, “preferably on a weekday morning when traffic is at
a minimum.” The several hundred miles that hug the coastland pass by
Spanish Missions, millionaire’s mansions, classic surf spots, and
beaches that grow progressively more rugged as you travel north. Big
Sur, south of Monterey Bay, is an
especially magical stretch of the highway, where damp coastal redwood
groves cascade toward the sea."
The article above describes what some of us take for granted.
This is why we live here and pay these prices in Santa Cruz.
Real estate is rather limited due to most of it being in agriculture
and preserves along the coast. The beauty will thus be here in
perpetuity, which is nice, but will be only fleetingly enjoyed as one
drives down the coast. Stopping at beaches on the way to Santa Cruz,
which are like little treasures found, is like one of the joys one gets
from unwrapping a gift. Hopeful, excited, and thankful. Each one is
different just as Capitola is different from Santa Cruz, and
La Selva Beach. The homes in each of these communities are different as
are the towns.
While the cost of homes in Santa Cruz is
high, the beauty is why we pay it. In the scope of life, time lost is
not recovered. Live with the beauty and you have memories of days on
the beach, or a surfing time with your son or a buddy. These types of
things you carry for life. If you are thinking of getting a place here,
maybe condo, which isn't a major step, but a toe in the water, I think
you will find it is a sanctuary for stress. Stop by www.propertyinsantacruz.com to
see if there is anything you'd like to buy for a vacation or retirement
home.
