Our biggest draw is
our size. Small is good when it comes to learning
communities, where the staff has the luxury of getting to know all
students as individuals, not just test-takers and consumers of
information. A student who values her education and knows that there is
no substitute for caring, concerned adults who take them seriously as
they prepare for higher education or the working world. Currently we
are over 100 students. Our capacity is 120. As a charter,
Cypress is open to any high school-age student in California.
Inter-district transfers are not required. Cypress was accredited last
year through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Most of our funding comes from the State of California’s Charter Block Grant. As an indirect funded charter school, our funds are funneled to us via the Live Oak School District, which fully supports us in a variety of administrative functions. We anticipate nearing our capacity this year; however, there may be some open spots in grades 9, 11, and 12. We have a part-time resource teacher who works with students on a pull-out basis. We will add Resource students only to balance those who exit the school. Cypress is not set up to meet the needs of Special Day Class or E.D. students. Commitment to their children, primarily. We ask for 20 volunteer hours per year. Active participation in any variety of parent groups is asked, or if not appropriate, other activities that support our school community. | |
