2023 Holiday Happenings in Santa Cruz CountyIf you have just moved to Santa Cruz County or are considering a move to Santa Cruz County you may be wondering what there is to do at this time of year. Winter Wonderland on the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

It wouldn't be a list of Santa Cruz events without highlighting what is going on at the iconic Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The boardwalk has been around for many decades and is a center of activity in the city of Santa Cruz. Get acquainted with the boardwalk and with the culture of the beach area in Santa Cruz by checking out the holiday festival that happens every year on the boardwalk. This year the festival will run between November 23 and December 31 on special days.

Different festive activities include photos with Santa, delicious seasonal treats, fire pit rentals and s'mores making, and a special winter wonderland package which includes special seasonal fun happening at the boardwalk. You don't want to miss the mini Nutcracker performances on the colonnade stage on December 2 and 3. The roaming carolers are also a lot of fun and they will be on the boardwalk on December 10 and 11th.

Holiday Lights at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds

Holiday Lights is a fun event hosted by the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds Foundation and Agricultural History Project. The event runs from Thanksgiving weekend through the end of December. The fairgrounds will be open Thursday through Sunday with over a half-mile drive-through holiday light experience. This is one of the most fun events for anyone who enjoys seeing Christmas lights. Enjoy giant larger-than-life Christmas light displays with thousands and thousands of twinkling lights. Stay in the comfort of your car and drive through the experience anytime from 5:30 PM to 9 PM. There will also be special dates where people can walk through the display instead of driving.

The Holiday Lights Train Through Santa Cruz

This fun-free tradition is a holiday train decorated in Christmas lights that makes its way through the Santa Cruz streets. If you are lucky enough to live in the Santa Cruz area the train just might drive past your home. The train departs from Neptune's Kingdom on the boardwalk and returns to the same place. You can even hop on the train and take a ride through town. The train departs at 5 PM, 6:30 PM, and eight. The train ride is an hour round-trip. Riding the train does require a reservation and is a ticketed event.

Holiday Markets

Throughout the season several holiday markets showcase locally made goods from vendors living throughout the area. Some of the most popular holiday markets include the Santa Cruz Mountains Holiday Makers Market, the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds Holidays Craft Fair, Village Green Holiday Craft Fair and Tree Lighting, Tannery Arts Center Winter Art Market', and the Felton Covered Bridge Holiday Market There are many more holiday markets all around. These are just a few of the most popular and widely known. 

Live Performances of the Nutcracker

The Nutcracker ballet is always a holiday tradition for many people and finding a place to catch a live performance is special. You can enjoy the Nutcracker ballet in Santa Cruz County at the Santa Cruz Ballet Theater on December 9 with two performances or you can head over to Cabrillo College on December 16 and 17th. Or you could enjoy both performances and compare and contrast the different styles of this classic holiday tale.

Christmas with the Santa Cruz Chorale at Mission Hill

If you are someone who loves musical performances this is one of the favorites during the holiday season in Santa Cruz. Check out the Santa Cruz Chorale singing famous Christmas carols accompanied by the orchestra. Performances are December 16 and 17th starting at 8 PM on the 16th and 4 PM on the 17th.
