Pajaro Dunes is a gated community that was developed in the 70's by the Hare-Brewer&Kelly Company, and is located off of West Beach Drive. It is a remote feeling development that abuts the ocean and the estuary, south of La Selva Beach and west of Watsonville. Many of these units are owned by several people and families, who sell their fractional share interests, so you will see some places for only a few hundred thousand dollars. This beachfront living is some of the prettiest in the area. Pajaro Dunes oceanview condos are a family favorite and are great vacation rentals. Read more below.

While you feel out and away from things, you are still only 8-10 minutes from town, though they even have their own fire department! It is a great place to get away to, and unwind. There are beach front homes, homes in the dunes, homes on stilts with ocean views, and ocean view condominiums. Pajaro Dunes is located in a truly unique setting in this county, and pretty uncommon on the west coast. They have a club house and tennis courts for corporate groups and entertainment. There is a gate house for secure check-ins that is manned 24 hours a day. Pajaro Dunes has a great vacation rental program and seems to have good rental bookings if you choose to put your place in the rental pool.To the right off of West Beach Drive is the Shorebirds complex, to the left are home, Pelican Point Condos, and the main part of the development.See the map of Pajaro Dunes on where you might like to own.
All the dwellings at Pajaro Dunes are all shingled, and have that great natural beach grey color. The location here is fabulous and feels like you are a million miles from anywhere, yet you are 10 minutes to shopping, 35 minutes to Carmel and Monterey, and about 25 minutes to Santa Cruz. Most are second homes or vacation rentals. If I were looking for a spot to go to write a screen play or book, this would be high on the list. Most units are 2 bedrooms and have a fireplace. The townhomes' at Pelican Point generally range from the $700,000's and the homes, depending on location, to about 2-3 million dollars. Not bad for ocean fronting real estate in my mind, and irreplaceable. The homes generate great rental income and range up to about 4,000 square feet for the largest. It is generally rare to find such large homes on the ocean in this county. Now is a great time to buy one of these units.
